Background:
The school was formed in 2002 when Fosseway Junior amalgamated with Fosseway Infants and changed its name to St Martin's Garden. Fosseway Junior was originally built in 1951 to serve the southern fringes of the city of Swindon, an area which largely comprises housing association housing. The school is set in 'large' grounds bordered by trees, with 'spacious' accommodation and its own swimming pool. Despite a 'relative lack of success in exams due to a less able intake', the school prides itself on the 'quality of its teaching, the positive ethos of the school and the progress made by children in the school'. Children 'achieve well' in sport, music and drama. Information and communication technology is 'a strength, both in resources and in achievement of pupils'. 'It is a caring school which, through encouraging dignity, self-discipline and confidence will enable each child to achieve the highest academic and moral standards possible'.
